The Reason You Turn Your Cell Phone Off on Planes
Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) can be a real hassle. It’s degrading to electrical equipment when unchecked. Remember when the picture on your old television was fuzzy? It was being affected by RFI. Same thing when you’re trying to talk on a radio but an obstructive noise makes it hard to understand. RFI can also minimize the quality of the signal on your cell phone. All this RFI ‘noise’ is emitted and received from all electrical devices.
Sometimes RFI can even be downright deadly. Imagine how electronic interference emitted out of a collection of smart phones could affect a passenger plane’s instruments. Most of the equipment in the cockpit is electronically reliant. Receiving interference can lead to catastrophic results like a crash or even a midair collision. Both outcomes are fatal.
This is why having an RFI Power Line Filter is important. By installing one with your electrical network, you will be able to suppress the external noise given off by other electrical sources. Then your equipment won’t be affected by external RFI. While all of this is happening your network can still release energy where it is supposed to go without being suppressed.
How to Make RFI Work for You
Radio frequency interference had military application in both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The terrorists in both countries used remote electrical signals to detonate roadside bombs planted to hit US convoys. To counter this, the US troops utilized RFI generating devices to jam the frequency of the bombers’ remotes.
If the bomber tried to detonate an IED (improvised explosive device) by remote, it wouldn’t work. The RFI devices would interfere with any electronics in their proximity. The bomber’s remote signal couldn’t reach the bomb, and the convoy passed safely through the danger zone.
