The terrorists in both countries used remote electrical signals to detonate roadside bombs planted to hit US convoys. To counter this, the US troops utilized RFI, or power line interference filter, generating devices to jam the frequency of the bombers’ remotes.
If the bomber tried to detonate an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) by remote, it wouldn’t work. The RFI devices, or power line interference filter device, would interfere with any electronics in their proximity. The bomber’s remote signal couldn’t reach the bomb, and the convoy passed safely through the danger zone.
